Overview

The Darcha Padum Trek is one of the most fulfilling adventure treks in India. The landscape of the place is marvelous. For you to trek throughout this route and explore the different places, it would take roughly 18 nights. The total route is at a high altitude and opens up breathtakingly beautiful variations along the way.

You start this trip from Manali and reach Darcha via Rohtang Pass. Then moving on to Ladakh you across the massive Zanskar Valley, and pass by scenic locales to ultimately reach Padum. The entire route of Darcha Padum Trek is dotted by quaint ancient monasteries located alongside cliffs across the rivers, with their age-old Buddhist cultures. A visit to these monasteries will treat you to calmness and admire the amazing prayer wheels that relax the mind and soul. There are also a number of beautiful rivers along the way from Darcha to Padum. These elegant rivers and their surroundings are just a sheer sample of scintillating beauty.

While on your way, you might encounter snow and it would be really challenging to trek through the snow. The Darcha Padum Trek will also include passing through some stunning mountain passes. The isolated villages in some places across the path are another option to look into while trekking. This trip enriches you with mesmerizing sightseeing from Manali to Leh which falls in the way. Places that will fall across the way of this trip are Manali, Darcha, Palamu, Zanskar, Sumdo, Chumi Nakpo, Lakham, Kurgiak, Bepul, Purne, Phuktal Gompa, Mune, Padum, Kargil and Leh.

Darcha Padum Trek itinerary

Day 1: Arrive - Delhi

Met on arrival at Delhi international airport and transfer to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 2: Delhi - Chandigarh - Manali

Early morning board fast train to Chandigarh. Met on arrival at Chandigarh and drive (310 km) to Manali (1920 mt) via Kullu and Mandi for overnight stay.

Day 3: Manali

Morning at leisure and preparation of trek. Afternoon proceed for half day city tour. Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 4: Manali - Darcha - Palamu

Morning drive to reach Darcha (3360 M) by covering appox 140 kms in 6-7 hrs. Stop at Rohtang Pass (3980 M) for photograph. Continue to reach Darcha and further to Palamu. Arrive and overnight stay in tents besides the river.

Day 5: Palamu - Zanskar Sumdo

Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Zanskar Sumdo (3750 M) by covering appox 14 kms in 4-5 hrs. You will cross the river by a trolley just before the camp. Overnight in tents.

Day 6: Zanskar Sumdo - Chumi Napko

Morning after breakfast start trekkingf to reach Chumi Nakpo (4060 M) by covering appox 14 kms in 4-5 hrs. A steep climb just after the camp and climb down gradually upto Chmi Nakpo. Overnight stay in tents.

Day 7: Chumi Napko - Lakham

Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Lakham (4100 M) by crossing Shingo La (5100 M) by covering appox 16 kms in 6-7 hrs. The climb to the pass is not hard but climbing down is hard through the glacier. Arrtive and overnight stay in tents.

Day 8: Lakham - Kurgiak

Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Kurgiakh (4060 M) by covering approx 14 kms. Now you will find the difference in the features of the of the mountains as you are in Zanskar. Arrive and set-up camp for overnight stay.

Day 9: Kurgiak - Bepul

Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Bepul (3950 M) by covering approx 14 kms. Arrive and overnight stay in tents.

Day 10: Bepul - Purne

Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Purni (3700 M) by covering approx 12 kms. Arrive and overnight stay in tents.

Day 11: Prune - Phuktal Gompa - Prune

Morning after breakfast start trekking for an excursion to Phutkal Gompa which is one of the most impressive gompas in Ladakh by covering approx 14 kms. In the afternoon return back to Purne for overnight stay.

Day 12: Prune - Mune

Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Mune (3650 M) by covering approx 12 kms. Arrive and set-up camp for overnight stay.

Day 13: Mune - Padum

Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Padum (3560 M) by covering approx 12 kms. Padum is the old capital of Zanskar. Arrive and overnight stay in tents.

Day 14: Padum

Explore Padum. Overnight in Camp.

Day 15: Padum - Kargil

Drive to Kargil through Suru Valley. Enroute visit Rangdum Gompa. Arrive and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 16: Kargil - Leh

Drive to Leh enroute visit Lamayuru Monastery, Alchi Choskor. Arrive & overnight in hotel.

Day 17: Leh

In the morning, proceed for sightseeing tour of monasteries of Indus Valley. Visit the famous monasteries of Shey, Thiksay & Hemis. Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 18: Leh - Delhi

Early morning fly to Delhi. Met on arrival at Delhi airport and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 19: Depart Delhi

Optional sightseeing of Delhi. Transfer to International airport in time to board flight for onward destination.
