The most remote of the <strong>Chota Char Dham<\/strong> sites, Kedarnath is located high up in the Himalayas, near the scenic Chorabari Glacier and flanked by snow-capped peaks, most prominently, the towering\u00a0 Kedarnath mountain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"448\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shikhar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kedarnath-Yatra1-1024x448.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4847\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.shikhar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kedarnath-Yatra1-1024x448.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.shikhar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kedarnath-Yatra1-300x131.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.shikhar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kedarnath-Yatra1-768x336.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.shikhar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kedarnath-Yatra1-50x22.jpg 50w, https:\/\/www.shikhar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kedarnath-Yatra1.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The temple to Lord Kedarnath, situated at a height of 3, 583 meters or an impressive 11,755 ft, on the shores of the lovely Mandakini river, a tributary of the Ganga, is a stone edifice of unknown date!\u00a0 That the Pandava Brothers found it befitting to visit Kedarnath and halt here awhile, after the historic Kurukshetra War, lend to it an added significance!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"448\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shikhar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kedarnath-Yatra2-1024x448.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4848\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.shikhar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kedarnath-Yatra2-1024x448.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.shikhar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kedarnath-Yatra2-300x131.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.shikhar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kedarnath-Yatra2-768x336.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.shikhar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kedarnath-Yatra2-50x22.jpg 50w, https:\/\/www.shikhar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kedarnath-Yatra2.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The name &#8220;Kedarnath&#8221; literally means &#8220;the lord of the field&#8221;. It derives from the Sanskrit words\u00a0<em>kedara<\/em>\u00a0(&#8220;field&#8221;) and\u00a0<em>natha<\/em>\u00a0(&#8220;lord&#8221;). There are also five temples around, with such quaint-sounding names as Badari Kedar, Madhya Maheswara, Tunganatha, Rudranatha, and Kallesvara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first hall inside Kedarnath Temple contains an array of statues of the five <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pandava\">Pandava<\/a>\u00a0brothers,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Krishna\">Krishna<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nandi_(bull)\">Nandi<\/a>, the vehicle of Shiva, and Virabhadra, one of Shiva\u2019s bodyguards. In addition, the statue of Draupadi and other deities are also installed in the main hall. The great sage, Adi Sankara, who is believed to have revived the temple of Shiva and Parvati\u2019s wedding nearby, along with Badrinath and other temples of Uttarakhand, is believed to have attained Mahasamadhi at Kedarnath. Behind the temple, is the Samadhi mandir of Adi Sankara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Revel with reverence at the religiosity of this sacred site,\ntrek through amazing scenic splendours to reach this hallowed spot where the\nhead priest (Raval) of the Kedarnath Temple belongs to the Veerashaiva\ncommunity from Kerala, wander in wonder exploring the many symbols of the\nPandavas surrounding Kedarnath. And partake of the pujas in which water and Bel\nleaves are used for worship.
