Overview

Traversing into Pin Valley: The Pin Valley trek is located in the valley of Spiti in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Continuous change in topography from lush green belt to dry arid landscape of Spiti. This trek is sure to charm many adventure lovers as it is very challenging and equally rewarding experience as it presents a mosaic of adventure , religion and culture. One requires good fitness and will to enjoy this trek. Explore ‘Ajanta of Himalayas’ the magnificent 1000 yr old Tabo Monastery. Amazing Monasteries of Dhankar , Ki & Pin. Old Hindu Temples of Bhimakali and Hadimba.

Pin Valley Trek itinerary

Day 1: Arrive - Delhi

Arrive Delhi. Met on arrival at Delhi international airport and transfer to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 2: Delhi - Chandigarh - Manali

Board the early morning Shatabdi exp. to Chandigarh. Met on arrival at Chandigarh railway station and drive (310 km) to Manali (1920 mt) via Mandi and Kullu. On arrival check-into hotel for overnight stay.

Day 3: Manali

Morning at leisure. Afternoon proceed for sightseeing tour of Manali. Visit Hadimba temple & hot springs of Vashist. Return back to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 4: Manali - Manikaran - Pulga

Drive to Pulga (98 km) via Kullu & Manikaran. Visit the holy Sikh temple (Gurudwara) and hot water spring at Manikaran and further proceed to reach Pulga. Overnight stay in tented camp.

Day 5: Pulga - Khirganga

The trek through the forest to Khir Ganga (2850 mt.). It is a pleasant walk and includes one short steep climb. Khir Ganga is a Hindu holy place with a hot water spring, a small temple to Lord Shiva and a bathing tank. This is the last chance to take a natural hot water bath on the trek. Trek through fields & forest to Khirganga. Arrive and camp for overnight.

Day 6: Khirganga - Tunda Bhoj

The trail is still within the limit of pine trees and is heavily wooded on this section also. Tunda Bhoj (3200 mt) is the upper limit for the pine forests and now on there is an abundance of Bhoj (Birch) trees. Camp in a green meadow.

Day 7: Thunda Bhoj - Thakar Kuan

This is the first challenging day on the trek. The trail is steep and hard in some sections close to Thakur Kuan (3400 Mts.). This area falls within the Kanawer Wildlife Sanctuary and one may encounter small Himalayan Brown Bears at lower elevations and Wild Sheep or the Snow Leopard at higher altitudes.

Day 8: Thakar - Pandu Bridge - Mantalai Lake

Trek through flower speckled meadows to mysterious Mantalai Lake. There are some very unusual rock bridges on the way to Mantalai and there is an abundance of quartz and semi precious gems around here.

Day 9: Mantalai - Lake Camp 1

Trek via crossing many small streams. The trek the climb over bolders and screes. Camp below the pass.

Day 10: Camp 1 - Pass - Camp 2

Climb to the Pin Parvati Pass 5320 mt). after spending some time at pass, descend on other side of pass and camp at the base for overnight stay.

Day 11: Camp 2 - Chinpatta Maidan

Gradual descent along the left bank of Pin River to Chinpatta. Camp for overnight.

Day 12: Chinpatta - Mud

Trek down Pin-Valley to Mud, the first village of Spiti. Camp for overnight. In the evening visit the village. Overnight stay in camp.

Day 13: Mud - Kungri - Rangrik

In the morning, drive to Rangrik, visiting Kungri monastery en route. On arrival, set-up camp. In the afternoon proceed for sightseeing of Ki and Kibber Monasteries. Ki Monastery is an important Gelugpa centre and is seat of Lochen Tulku, the 24th Lotsawa Rimpoche. Return back to camp for overnight stay.

Day 14: Rangrik - Kaza - Sichling

Drive to Sichling below the Dhankar Monastery (3890 mt). In the afternoon visit Dhankar Monastery.

Day 15: Sichling - Tabo - Sichling

Day excursion to Tabo (3050 m) the ancient cultural city of Spiti. It houses the most famous Monastery of Himachal Pradesh. This is over 1000 year old and treated as the most sacred Monastery next only to Tholling Gompa in Tibet. The inner wall of Tabo is covered by frescos and painting from Buddha's life. Often referred as `Ajanta of Himalayas' Tabo's paintings are still preserved in most original form.

Day 16: Tabo - Kalpa

Drive to Kalpa visiting Puh and Nako Lake en route. Visit Old China town and enjoy stunning views of Kinner - Kailsah massif. Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 17: Kalpa - Sangla

Drive to Sangla. Excursion to Chitkul - the last village in Sangla Valley. Mt. Laldang dominates the valley. Overnight stay in camp.

Day 18: Sangla - Sarahan

Drive to Sarahan. On arrival check-into hotel. In the afternoon visit the famous Hindu Temple of Godess Kali - Bhimkali Temple and bird breeding centre in Sarahan. Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 19: Sarahan - Shimla

Drive to Shimla via Rampur and Narkanda. Visit Viceregal lodge, State Museum and the Mall. Overnight in hotel.

Day 20: Shimla - Kalka - Delhi

Day free to explore Shimla town. Afternoon transfer to Kalka railway to board train to Delhi. Met on arrival at Delhi railway station and transfer to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 21: Depart Delhi

Day at leisure to explore Delhi on your own. Later transfer to airport for flight to onward destination.
