Chardham Yatra 2023: India Is a place that is known for its culture, religion, spirituality, and beliefs. For thousands of years, sacred people have been offering their prayers and worship in the temples or shrines in various places; many people travel a thousand kilometers to visit temples and shrines. There are 330 Million Gods and Goddesses and their countless temples. Many temples are from Ancient times a few of them are in the state of Uttarakhand.

There is a sacred circuit of temples in Uttrakhand, which is called Char Dham Yatra, annually this yatra is open for the pilgrimage in between April to till Diwali. Char Dham refers to four significant temples of Hindu deities, which are Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.

Yamunotri is dedicated to Goddess Yamunotri, Gangotri is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, Kedarnath is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. These four sacred places are also a source of four holy rivers – Ganga from Gangotri, Yamuna from Yamunotri, Mandakini from Kedarnath and Alaknanda from Badrinath. The actual source of these rivers are glaciers which is few kilometers away from the temples, there are trekking routes towards to these glaciers, many of trekkers go to the actual originating point of these holy revers.

Best time to visit        

Some pure and untouched elegance surrounds the Chardham. In these Dham’s, you have a perfect chance to see the beauty of Indian Himalayas while having blessed by the mighty gods. There is a beautiful view of the mountains, rivers, waterfalls, grasslands, and forests. 

Best time to plan Char Dham Yatra is in Summers between April to June, when the atmosphere and weather is pleasant in the mountains, at this time valleys are in full bloom, you can see the wide varieties of flowers and other vegetation.

The temples of Char Dham witnesses a heavy snowfall during the winters, that’s why shrines remain close after Diwali festival after Diwali the idol of all four temples shifted to other villages. Like – idol of Yamunotri shifted to Shani Dev Temple in Kharsali, Gangotri idol shifted to the Mukhimath temple in Mukba, Kedarnath idol shifted to Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath and Badrinath idol moved to Vasu Dev temple in Joshimath.     

Char Dham Yatra Route from Ex Delhi 

The route starts from Delhi and goes to Haridwar, Barkot, Yamunotri, Uttarkashi, Gangotri, Guptkashi, Kedarnath, Rudraprayag, Badrinath, Rishikesh and goes to another destination.

Delhi to Haridwar – 210 km (6 – 7 Hours)

Haridwar to Barkot – 220 km (7 hours)

Barkot to Yamunotri – 36 km (Drive) + 6 km (Trek)

Barkot to Uttarkashi – 100 km (5 hours)

Uttarkashi to Gangotri – 100 km (4 hours)

Uttarkashi to Guptkashi – 196 km (7 hours)

Guptkashi to Kedarnath – 30 km (Drive) + 17 km (Trek)

Kedarnath to Rudraprayag – 17 km (Trek) + 72 km (Drive)

Rudraprayag to Badrinath – 157 km (6 hours)

Badrinath to Rishikesh – 297 km (10 hours)

Rishikesh to Delhi – 224 km (6 hours)
