Druk Wangyel Tshechu Festival Bhutan itinerary

DAY 01: ARRIVAL PARO ( FLIGHT)
Welcome to Bhutan, the land of Thunder Dragon. On arrival at Paro airport, our representative will receive you. After settling in the hotel, the afternoon will be spent visiting the Ta Dzong which is positioned above the Rinpung Dzong. Today it is the National Museum housing an astounding collection of arts, relics, religious thangka paintings, ancient weapons, etc. Then we will walk to 372 years old Rinpung Dzong, which is now an administrative and religious centre for the people of Paro. We’ll also take a short trip to Paro Street.

DAY 02: PARO – THIMPHU (55 KMS 1 ½ HRS DRIVE)
Enroute to the small and charming capital city Thimphu, we will visit the Iron Chain Bridge built in late 1300s. Once we reach Thimphu we will explore the Royal Textile Academy where you can witness living art of traditional weaving, the National Library holding the biggest book in the world, the Traditional Art School and have a Bhutanese lunch at the folk Heritage Museum. Also visit a mini zoo to see the unique Takins, the national animal of Bhutan and the Centenary Farmers Market where farmers come to sell their produce.

DAY 03: THIMPU – DOCHULA – PUNAKHA (85 KMS. 3 HRS. DRIVE)
In the morning we will drive to Dochula Pass (alt. 3019m)to attend the Druk Wangyel Tshechu which is a festival established in 2011 in commemoration of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and the Armed Forces’ victory over insurgent forces residing in southern Bhutan in 2003. On a clear day, one can also view snowcapped mountains and the pristine forest of the Himalayas as a picturesque backdrop to the majestic 108 chortens enriching the mountains. After that, we will continue to drive down the valley till we reach Punakha, the old capital of Bhutan and visit the enchanting Punakha Dzong.

DAY 04: PUNAKHA – GANGTEY (80 KMS 3 HRS DRIVE)
After breakfast we head for a short one hour hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. We will be also driving up towards Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup nunnery. In the evening we will be leaving for Gangtey which is a beautiful and tranquil place surrounded by lush forests.

DAY 05: GANGTEY – PARO (170 KMS 4 ½ HRS DRIVE)
In the morning we will stroll around the famous phobia valley and visit the exquisite Gangey Goempa. After lunch drives back to Paro for a relaxing evening.

DAY 06: PARO
This morning we hike up to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest). Visible from afar, this magical monastery clings to a vertical cliff 1, 000 feet above the valley floor. It is one at 04 the most important architecture in Bhutan After the hike, through the long stretch of Paro valley, we will drive to the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong "victorious Fortress", which was built in 1649 to celebrate the victory over the Tibetans led by a Mongolian warlord, On a clear day you could see the snowcapped peak of the Jomolhari Mountain . We will also visit Kichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines of the Kingdom. Later in the evening, will visit a traditional Bhutanese Farm House. They also provide a relaxing traditional hot stone bath service. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.

DAY 07: DEPART PARO
Early morning breakfast at hotel. Later well in time checkout from the hotel and transfer to airport to boatd the onward flight.
