Overview
Kolkata, or the City of Joy is the hub for exploring the Eastern Part of India. Apart from the various attractions the city itself has to offer, it serves as a gateway to one of the more beautiful and relatively unexplored parts of India - commonly referred to as the North East.
Golfing in Kolkata is as old and as good as it comes. With 2 top courses, namely the Royal Calcutta Golf Club which is widely regarded as the oldest golf course outside Great Britain and Tollygunge Golf Club, you are guaranteed to have a solid golfing experience. Combine it with the courses in tea garden and hill country in the North East in Digboi & Shillong and you have a full fledged golfing experience in this region by itself.
As in other parts of India, there is plenty to see, experience and explore. Kolkata still retains its charm with the Victoria Memorial and Garden, the football fervour and the unrelenting Eden Gardens, one of the most famous cricket venues in the world. The Sunderbans, one of the largest mangrove ecosystems is less than 200 km away and makes for a rich experience particularly with possible sightings of the endangered Royal Bengal Tiger and Olive Ridley Turtles.
In the North East, it is possible to go upto Darjeeling and Sikkim and catch magnificent views of the Himalayas including the Kanchenjunga- in fact some special treks are available in Sikkim. In Assam apart from having a princely experience in the tea gardens, you can also visit the Kaziranga National Park which is home to the Great One Horned Rhino apart from a vast tiger populations and other wildlife.
