A beautiful area surrounded by the sky-piercing peaks of the snow-capped Himalayas, Zanskar and Karakoram ranges, which is further golden by the crystal waters of the Shyok, Zanskar and Indus rivers. Leh is a major center of Buddhism and has many important monasteries. Travelers can visit several monasteries and get acquainted with the ancient culture of the area.
