South India Pilgrimage Tour itinerary

Day 01: Arrive Chennai

Welcome to India- a country where hospitality is a way of life; to a culture steeped in tradition, a land where history lives in music and dance. You will be received by Shikhar Travel representative at the airport and proceed to your hotel for checking in & relax.

Overnight at Chennai

Meal: no meal

Day 02: Chennai

Today morning after breakfast proceed for fully guided tour of Chennai, also known as the soul of Southern India, and the keeper of Southern India’s artistic, religious, and culinary traditions. After our guided tour, we travel to the Shrine of Our Lady of Health Velankannito partake in public Holy Mass in Tamil.

Back to hotel.

Day 03: Chennai – Velankanni                     By: Surface

Today after breakfast, proceed with guided tour of St. Thomas Mount and St Thomas Cathedral. The cathedral was built in the 16^th century by Portuguese explorers over the tomb of Saint Thomas, one of Jesus’s twelve apostles. There will be time for lunch before we board our vehicle for the Journey to Velankanni, which will take approximately (approx. 315 km 7 hrs. 30min). Upon arrival check-in into your hotel for overnight.

Day 04: Velankanni

This morning after breakfast we drive to the beautiful Velankanni Basilica of Our Lady of Good Healthfor morning Mass in the lower basilica. After Mass, there will be time for a self-guided tour of Velankanni, where we can visit local Churches and near by beaches. Lunch is at choice.

We return to the Basilica in the evening for the Eucharistic Procession, before returning to our hotel.

Day 05: Velankanni – Thanjavur – Pondicherry                              By: Surface

This morning, we celebrate early morning Mass at Our Lady’s Tank Church. After Mass, we will return to our hotel to check-out before transferring to Pondicherry via Thanjavur. (approx. 95 Km 2 hrs. 30 min) drive. Here, we shall have a guided tour of the city, where we will get to see the Thanjavur is an important centre of South Indian Religion, art, and architecture. Lunch is at choice. We then continue to Pondicherry, (approx. 215 km 4 hrs. 30 min.) where we check-in into the hotel for overnight.

Day 06: Pondicherry

This morning, we will celebrate Mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, or Immaculate conception Cathedral. This Cathedral is one of the oldest tourist sites in Pondicherry and was visited by Mother Teresa during her visit to the country. After, Mass, we have a tour of Pondicherry, home to many colonial building, churches, temples, Aurobindo Ashram, and statues of prominent figures. Lunch will be at choice, and rest of the day will be at leisure.

Day 07: Pondicherry – Chennai – Kolkata                  By: Surafce/Flight

Early morning after breakfast transfer to Chennai International Airport for your domestic flight to Kolkata. (approx. 150 km 3 hrs.) upon arrival in Kolkata airport you will transfer to your hotel for 04-night stay.

Note: Kolkata hotel location is nearby Mother Teresa House which is walking distance.

Later we transfer to Mother Teresa House for volunteering & in the evening you attend Adoration at Mother House.

Day 08: Kolkata (Volunteering in Kolkata)

Early take packed breakfast and walk to Mother Teresa House for attend early Mass, before receiving our day pass to volunteer in Kolkata. The rest of the day will be spent volunteering. Lunch today is at choice, and dinner will be in your hotel.

Day 09: Kolkata (Volunteering in Kolkata)

Early take packed breakfast and walk to Mother Teresa House for attend early Mass, before receiving our day pass to volunteer in Kolkata once again. The rest of the day will be spent volunteering. Lunch today is at choice, and dinner will be in your hotel.

Day 10: Kolkata (Volunteering in Kolkata)

Early take packed breakfast and walk to Mother Teresa House for attend early Mass, before receiving our day pass to volunteer in Kolkata once again. The rest of the day will be spent volunteering. Lunch today is at choice, and dinner will be in your hotel.
