Overview

Mont Blanc meaning 'White Mountain' in French stands at 4,808 metres above sea level on the border of France and Italy. It is the highest peak in Western Europe and the second-highest summit in Europe after the Caucasus peaks. For generations, Mont Blanc has represented the gateway to high-altitude alpinism, drawing climbers from every corner of the world to the iconic valleys of Chamonix and Courmayeur.

First summited in 1786 by Jacques Balmat and Dr. Michel Paccard, Mont Blanc is widely regarded as the birthplace of modern mountaineering. Today, between 20,000 and 30,000 people attempt the summit each year, making it one of the most climbed high-altitude peaks on Earth though success is far from guaranteed.

Unlike technical 8,000 meter Himalayan objectives, Mont Blanc is accessible to well-prepared, fit climbers without decades of experience. With the right training, the right guide, and the right conditions, standing on the summit of Western Europe's highest point is an achievable goal and an unforgettable one

Best Time to Climb Mont Blanc

Mid-June to mid-July is the best time to climb Mont Blanc. Snow conditions are stable, weather windows are longer, and rockfall risk in the Grand Couloir is lower than in August. Shikhar schedules most guided expeditions in this window.

For experienced teams, late May to early June offers quieter conditions with firm snow. September is possible but brings shorter days and less predictable weather.
